Book List: The Wellness Revolution

The Wellness Revolution by Paul Zane Pilzer

I have just finished reading this book and it provided me with a clearer picture of the current state of the wellness industry as a consumer and as an entrepreneur. Paul Zane Pilzer, a world renowned economist's, wrote this second edition as a follow-up to his 2002 Wellness Revolution because so much has happened in the past five years. Some of the events happened as he has predicted, like the rise of the industry from US$ 200 billion in 2002 to US$ 500 billion today; some he missed, like the involvement of the direct selling industry; some he didn't expect to proceed very quickly; like the early adoption of healthy food offerings by food industry providers. He tells of the different pioneers in this industry and how people are slowly shifting to a more proactive approach to sickness and diseases. The related services primarily involve providing proper diets, exercise and supplementation to promote anti-aging and healthier lifestyles. He then mentioned that Direct Selling has become a very important player in the industry as it provides intellectual distribution, the process of educating customers about new products and services.

Join the Wellness Revolution

This is a short video on the wellness revolution.

I saw it on the first business presentation I attended in June, 2007. It was an eye opener. And for me, it really made sense. As one in my early 40's, health has become a highly relevant issue (more important than time or money) for me and for the people close to me. I then felt the need to look closer at the business opportunity on which I can personally relate to.

Book List: The Alchemist

The Alchemist by Paulo Coehlo
This is one of my favorite books of all time. A good friend of mine gave me the book for my birthday a few years ago. It's a magical story of a shepherd boy who travels in search of a worldly treasure and the adventures he had along the way. It's a story about listening to our hearts, learning to read the omens strewn along life's path, and above all, following our dreams.

Some of my favorite passages:

  • When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.
  • "Never stop dreaming," the old king had said. "Follow the omens."
  • When the shepherd boy was robbed of all his money, he realized that he had to choose between thinking of himself as the poor victim of a thief and as an adventurer in quest of his treasure. "I'm an adventurer, looking for treasure," he said to himself.
  • It was the language of enthusiasm, of things accomplished with love and purpose, and as part of a search for something believed in and desired.
  • Intuition is really a sudden immersion of the soul into the universal current of life where the histories of all people are connected, and we are able to know everything, because it's all written there.
  • Be aware of the place where you are brought to tears. That's where I am, and that's where your treasure is.

I have been reading the book at least once a year hoping that someday soon, I can set out on an adventure in search of my treasure. I have recently started to read it again but haven't been able to concentrate on it. It's possible that I believe that I am on my journey towards a dream and reading it right now is not necessary.

I Believe

I Believe
(Yolanda Adams)

They said you wouldn't make is so far uh uh
And ever since they said it, it's been hard
But never mind the nights you had to cry
Cause you have never let it go inside
You worked real hard
And you know exactly what you want and need
So believe and you can never give up
You can reach your goals
Just talk to your soul and say…

(Chorus:)
I believe I can (I can)
I believe I will (I will)
I believe I know my dreams are real (know my dreams are real)
I believe I'll chant (Oh yea)
I believe I'll dance
I believe I'll grow real soon and (That's why)
That is what I do believe

Your goals are just a thing in your soul uh uh
And you know that your moves will let them show
You keep creating pictures in your mind
So just believe they will come true in time
It will be fine
Leave all of your cares and stress behind
Just let it go
Let the music flow inside
Forget all your pain
And just start to believe

(Chorus:)
I believe I can (I believe I can oh yea)
I believe I will
I believe I know my dreams are real (All of my dreams are real)
I believe I'll chant
I believe I'll dance (I gotta dance)
I believe I'll grow real soon and (ooo)
That is what I do believe
Whoa oa oa YEA…

(Music break)

Never mind what people say
Hold your head high and turn away
With all our hopes and dreams
I will believe
Even though it seems it's not for me
I won't give up I'll keep it up
Look into the sky
I will achieve all my needs
I will always believe….OoOo

(Chorus 2x)
I believe I can
I believe I will (I can)
I believe I know my dreams are real (I got strength)
I believe I'll chant
I believe I'll dance (I gotta dance)
I believe I'll grow real soon and (watch me watch me watch me)
That is what I do believe (I do believe in me)

I believe I can
I believe I will (oh yea)
I believe I know my dreams are real
I believe I'll chant
I believe I'll dance (I gotta dance)
I believe I'll grow real soon and
That is what I do believe (I do believe! yayeeyay)
